SkinPen Overview
Microneedling is a powerful, minimally invasive treatment that harnesses your skin’s natural healing abilities to improve its tone, texture, and overall health. By using a specialized device—like the FDA-approved Skin Pen—we create precise micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating your body’s production of healing proteins like collagen and elastin. This process rejuvenates the skin, effectively reducing fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, acne scars, and more.
Microneedling offers results similar to fractional laser treatments or chemical peels but without the extended downtime or side effects. It’s a safe, effective option for all skin types and tones. To achieve optimal results, we typically recommend 5 to 8 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart for concerns like acne scars or anti-aging. For more intensive issues such as surgical scars or stretch marks, 8 to 10 sessions every 5 to 6 weeks may be ideal.
For even more dramatic outcomes, microneedling can be enhanced with radiofrequency (RF) energy or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). RF microneedling penetrates deeper into the skin, using heat energy to amplify collagen production and renewal, while PRP adds growth factors derived from your own blood to accelerate the skin’s natural rejuvenation process.
Whether you choose microneedling alone or in combination with advanced treatments, Shea Aesthetic Clinic can help you achieve smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin with minimal downtime.
Microneedling In Comparison
“What’s the difference between microneedling, laser treatment, and dermabrasion?”
The beauty of microneedling is that it stimulates your body’s natural healing process, correcting skin imperfections in a gentle yet effective way. When combined with advanced technologies like radiofrequency (RF) energy, microneedling is a powerful solution for facial rejuvenation.
Unlike other treatments such as lasers, chemical peels, or dermabrasion—which often involve removing the top layers of skin—microneedling preserves the skin’s surface while encouraging the formation of new collagen (a process called dermal neocollagenesis). This makes microneedling a low-risk option for improving skin texture, tone, and firmness, with minimal downtime.
While traditional resurfacing treatments are effective, they may cause more inflammation and carry a higher risk of side effects like sensitivity to light, irregular pigmentation, or scarring in deeper skin layers.
Microneedling avoids these risks by preserving the stratum corneum and epidermis, keeping your skin’s protective barrier intact while delivering transformative results.
For patients seeking a safe, natural way to rejuvenate their skin, microneedling offers a balance of power and precision with long-lasting benefits.
Microneedling vs. Scar Tissue
Microneedling improves scar tissue and stretch marks by stimulating the body’s natural healing and remodeling processes.
During microneedling, tiny needles create controlled punctures in the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries disrupt scar tissue and stimulate the skin to begin its healing process.
In response to these micro-injuries, the body produces more collagen and elastin—proteins that are essential for healthy, firm, and elastic skin. This process is called dermal remodeling, and it helps repair damaged skin and reduce the visibility of scars and stretch marks.
The needles physically break up the dense, disorganized collagen fibers that make up scar tissue. As the body heals, these fibers are replaced with smoother, more uniform collagen, which helps blend scars with the surrounding skin.
For stretch marks, microneedling encourages the formation of new skin cells and reduces pigmentation irregularities. Over time, this can help stretch marks become less noticeable and align more closely with your natural skin tone.
Combining microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can further improve results. RF energy targets deeper layers of the skin, enhancing collagen production, while PRP adds growth factors to speed up healing and improve scar and stretch mark outcomes.
With a series of microneedling sessions, the skin gradually becomes smoother, firmer, and more even, diminishing the appearance of scar tissue and stretch marks over time.
Our Microneedling Process
When you visit us for microneedling in Oak Ridge, we’ll prepare the microneedling device with a fresh, sterilized tip and make sure you’re ready for treatment.
Microneedling can cause a stinging sensation throughout the area as the needles penetrate your skin. However, we’ll apply a topical anesthetic cream to your target area beforehand so you shouldn’t feel anything from treatment!
The full treatment session should only take around 30 to 45 minutes. During this time, we’ll methodically pass the device over your skin. It’s important that we evenly cover the entire area to make sure we provide the most transformative results with every session.
