The Difference Between CoolSculpting and Emsculpt Neo in the Knoxville Area

What is the difference between CoolSculpting and Emsculpt Neo for body contouring?

CoolSculpting reduces fat.

Emsculpt Neo reduces fat, strengthens, and tones muscles, and tightens and rejuvenates skin. It also is used to provide a non-surgical butt lift.

Emsculpt Neo Gives an Amazing Butt Lift

CoolSculpting works by freezing fat cells which makes them die permanently, causing you to lose fat in that area.

Emsculpt Neo combines electromagnetic and radiofrequency energy. The electromagnetic energy causes muscles in the area to contract thousands of times during the treatment. This provides the same results as doing 14 weeks of high-intensity interval exercise training. Emsculpt Neo builds new muscle fibers and increases muscle size. This strengthens and tones existing muscles. The radiofrequency energy permanently destroys fat cells and tightens and rejuvenates the skin.

How Emsculpt Neo Works

CoolSculpting can be used on abs, buttocks, inner and outer thighs, upper arms, and calves.

Emsculpt Neo is used in the same areas and other areas, like fat under the chin and bra fat.

CoolSculpting in Action
CoolSculpting destroys about 25% of the fat in areas treated. It has no effect on muscles, and it does not tighten skin. If skin laxity after fat loss occurs with CoolSculpting, additional skin tightening procedures (most commonly radiofrequency energy treatments) are needed to tighten the skin.

Emsculpt Neo destroys 30% of the fat in treated areas (Abs, Thighs). It also builds the muscles under the fat. In doing so, it decreases the fat in front, within, and behind (visceral fat) the muscles. Emsculpt Neo is the only device that can decrease visceral fat (the fat behind the abdominal muscles).

CoolSculpting and Emsculpt Neo can provide truly acceptable results in very obese patients, however, multiple treatments are required.

Emsculpt Neo is a Comfortable Treatment

CoolSculpting uses a fat-freezing technology called cryolipolysis. The CoolSculpting applicator suctions the skin and fatty tissue into the cooling cups, where they are brought to a temperature cold enough to stimulate fat cells to die.

Emsculpt Neo uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic technology (HIFEM) and radiofrequency energy to induce involuntary supramaximal muscle contractions in the treatment area and to destroy fat cells. Supramaximal contractions engage 100% of the muscle fibers in an area, helping to tone the muscle faster than exercise alone. Scientific studies using CT scan, MRI, and ultrasound have shown that Emsculpt Neo burns 30% fat and builds 25% muscle in the abdomen after 4 weekly treatments.

CoolSculpting uses temperatures that are just above freezing. The initial few minutes are the most uncomfortable due to the intense cold. Then, the discomfort subsides as the tissue gets numb from the cold. After treatment, the fatty tissue in the cooling cups is massaged for several minutes. This procedure is quite painful. Most patients take the rest of the day off due to post-treatment tenderness.
Treatment with Emsculpt Neo has been compared to receiving a warm stone massage. The intensity of the muscle contraction is adjusted to patient comfort and tolerance. There is no downtime after Emsculpt Neo. Many patients receive the treatment during their lunch break, then go back to work.
Both CoolSculpting and Emsculpt Neo are FDA-cleared, non-surgical devices for body sculpting. In well-trained hands, the risk of adverse effects with either treatment is very low.
CoolSculpting has been used for body sculpting since 2010. It’s common for patients to experience temporary numbness, soreness, and mild swelling after treatment. Serious side effects are rare; however, they can occur. New York Times Article about Linda Evangelista’s complication of paradoxical fat hyperplasia after treatment with CoolSculpting.
Emsculpt Neo is a newer technology. It has an excellent safety record since its introduction to medical aesthetics in 2018. Patients commonly have mild skin redness for a few minutes after treatment and sore muscles in the treated area for 1-2 days afterwards. Since Emsculpt Neo uses electromagnetic energy, it cannot be used in patients with metallic or electronic implants, such as an artificial joint in the area, or a pacemaker.
