Before and After

LaseMD Ultra Laser Specialists

What is LaseMD Ultra?

LaseMD Ultra is a non-ablative laser that provides fractional skin resurfacing for the face and body. “Non-ablative” means it doesn’t ablate or burn off the entire epidermis. It is a fractional laser because it treats a portion of the skin surface, leaving the remaining skin intact. These features are the reason for the minimal down-time and quick recovery after treatment.

LaseMD Ultra uses gentle columns of heat to stimulate collagen growth without significantly wounding the skin.

The LaseMD Ultra uses a 1927 nm wavelength. This wavelength is great at treating pigmentation. The only other 1927 lasers on the market are Clear + Brilliant Permea, Fraxel Dual 1927, and Moxi. LaseMD Ultra delivers higher power than all these devices. So, compared to the other 1927 nm lasers, the Ultra is the most customizable which means better results for you.

Ultra provides light resurfacing to give your skin an overall clarity and glow. It can also deliver moderate to deep resurfacing as well, to improve fine lines, pigmentation, and moderate sun damage.

Does Ultra Really Work for Melasma?

YES! Unlike older lasers, Ultra is the ONLY LASER approved to treat Melasma. Melasma requires 4-6 treatments at very low settings and pretreatment with lightening agents. Once the melasma is lightened sufficiently, regular treatments are needed to maintain these results. Most clients require maintenance treatments every 3-6 months.

What does LaseMD Ultra Treatment Feel Like?

The treatment is quite comfortable and only requires use of a topical anesthetic for 15 minutes prior to the procedure. You’ll feel a bit of warmth and a tingling sensation as the laser passes over your skin. At higher settings, the tingle can feel a little stingy. The experts at Shea will ensure that you feel comfortable during the entire procedure.

Recovery After LaseMD Ultra

A significant benefit of LaseMD Ultra is minimal downtime after treatment. Most patients return to their daily routine right after leaving their appointment.

You can expect a few days of mild redness and a sandpapery feel to your skin. This is normal and will resolve as your skin exfoliates revealing fresher and clearer skin. After treatment, you will look like you have a mild sunburn overnight. More aggressive treatments may cause redness and sometimes mild swelling for up to 4-5 days after treatment. Some clients experience temporary itching as the skin heals.

You’ll have increased sun sensitivity for about two weeks after Ultra skin resurfacing. The pigment and debris on your skin will flake off during this time.

Following our aftercare directions will minimize these problems, protect your skin, and ensure optimal results.

LaseMD Ultra Results

After treatments, patients will see significant improvement in the quality of their skin. Melasma will be lightened, pores will be less visible, pigmented age spots and acne scars will be lighter, sun damage, skin tone and texture will be improved. Treatment with this laser triggers increased collagen production for several months. This means your results will continue to improve for months after treatment.

We’ll provide you with a post-treatment skin care kit. Basically, you’ll keep your face well moisturized, avoid harsh exfoliants, retinols and glycolic acid products for 7 days. Use sun block for 14 days after treatment (and every day for life).

A 3 day post care Kit will be given to you. Avoid harsh exfoliants, retinols and glycolic acid products for 7 days. Use sun block for 14 days after treatment (and every day for life).

The number of treatments needed depends on the severity of skin conditions present. For general rejuvenation purposes, we recommend three treatment sessions spaced one month apart. More treatment sessions are needed for clients with melasma, significant sun damage, and acne scarring.

As we age, our skin’s ability to produce collagen decreases. The sun’s rays degrade our skin’s collagen content as well. These processes age our skin.

Best tips to prevent skin aging:

Use a medical grade sunscreen as part of your daily routine
Use medical grade skin care products daily
Receive treatments to stimulate your skin’s collagen production every 6-12 months
Receiving regular treatments that stimulate collagen production is key to maintaining youthful, healthy-appearing skin.

Common collagen stimulating procedures: Microneedling, Radiofrequency, lasers, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL or BBL), and others.

Scheduling a follow-up treatment three to six months after your initial LaseMD Ultra series will refresh your complexion and keep your skin at its best.

How does Ultra compare to Fraxel? Ultra has less downtime, it’s more comfortable, and the results are just as great.

How does Ultra compare to Clear + Brilliant? LaseMD Ultra is 5 times more powerful than Clear and brilliant. This means it’s 5 times more effective. Less treatments are needed to receive the same results. Ultra’s laser settings can be decreased to offer a clear and brilliant treatment if desired.
