Summer has come to a close, and your skin may have taken a hit from the time spent at the beach, in the garden, out in the park, or watching a ball game. Now is the time to take care of your skin and repair the damage that has been done.
Here are some steps to take in an effort to reverse the effects of sun exposure…
- Consume beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is an antioxidant found in select foods. It helps make your skin more supple and research shows that it helps to reduce sun-related wrinkles. Eat fruits and vegetables including spinach, cantaloupe, and carrots, or take a supplement.
- Stay hydrated. Research is back and forth about whether water really helps our skin. But water absolutely will not hurt and it is good for your body in numerous other ways.
- Ask the Shea Team about retinoids. You can find them in a prescription or over the counter in the form of retinol. These supplements can boost the collagen in your skin to make it more elastic.
- Always protect your skin. To begin with, we commonly recommend that you wear sunscreen every day. The SPF should be 15 or higher. Wear sunscreen whether it’s sunny or not and regardless of temperature. When outdoors, wear a hat or seek shade under trees and umbrellas. Make sure your facial moisturizer contains SPF as well.
