What is LATISSE®?
LATISSE® is the first FDA-approved prescription medication for fuller, darker eyelashes. It is an Allergan product.
Why should I use LATISSE®?
If you’d like to grow fuller, longer, darker lashes in just 16 weeks LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is right for you.
LATISSE® is an FDA-approved treatment to help increase the growth of eye lashes.
How long does it take for LATISSE® to work?
Our eye lashes grow slowly over time. So, it takes a while to notice results. Some people begin to see longer lashes in about four weeks. The full effect of LATISSE® will be present by 16 weeks after initiation of the product.
Individual results vary, so results cannot be guaranteed.
What kind of results can I expect from LATISSE®?
After 16 weeks of use, the following results are typical:
- 25% increase in lash length
- 106% increase in lash thickness/fullness
- 18% increase in lash darkness
How is LATISSE® applied?
LATISSE® is a treatment you apply yourself each evening to the base of the upper eyelashes. DO NOT APPLY LATISSE® to lower lid. Only apply at base of upper lashes.
Only use the sterile applicator brushes that come with LATISSE®. Apply the product carefully. Blot any excess solution to avoid having the solution run down the cheek or get on other skin areas.
How can I achieve the best results from LATISSE®?
To achieve the full effect of longer, fuller, and darker lashes, you should use the product daily for 16 weeks. Then continue to use the product for as long as you’d like to maintain those results.
Will applying more LATISSE® give better or faster results?
No. LATISSE® works slowly and gradually. It takes 16-weeks to receive the full benefit of the product.
Use of LATISSE® more than once a day or using more product than recommended will not increase the growth of eyelashes. Doing this may also increase the risk of having a side effect of the medication.
Can I put LATISSE® on my lower eyelids?
LATISSE® was only studied with patients who applied it to the upper lashes. DO NOT APPLY in your eye, or to the lower eye lid. It’s important to apply the product appropriately.
Is LATISSE® designed to replace mascara?
No. LATISSE® is a medication for those with inadequate eyelashes. It requires a prescription from a doctor. As your eyelashes grow darker and fuller, your need for mascara may lessen.
What should I do if I miss or skip an application of LATISSE®?
If you miss an application or a few, don’t try to catch up. Doubling up on your treatments won’t help and may increase your chance of having one of the side effects of the medication.
If you miss a day, just apply LATISSE® the next evening and continue to apply it once daily as directed.
Missing applications regularly may compromise the results you receive from LATISSE® treatment. So, make sure this becomes part of your daily routine.
What should I do if I get LATISSE® into my eye?
If any gets into your eye, it is not expected to cause harm. The eye does not need to be rinsed out.
Can I use LATISSE® if I wear contacts?
Yes, but you should take the contacts out before you apply LATISSE®. Then wait for 15 minutes after applying LATISSE® before putting your contacts back in.
Can men use LATISSE®?
Yes, both men and women can use LATISSE® to increase the length, thickness, and darkness of their eyelashes. It works equally well in both women and men. We have several male patients who use LATISSE® to increases the growth of their lashes and they are happy with their results.
What happens if I stop using LATISSE®?
If LATISSE® is discontinued, eyelashes will return to their previous appearance over the course of several weeks to months.

How Was LATISSE® Discovered?
In 2001, Allergan developed eye drop medication to treat high eye pressure. Patients using the treatment reported that their eyelashes were growing longer, fuller and darker (an exciting side effect). Allergan studied the active ingredient of the medication, bimatoprost, specifically for increasing eye lash growth. Allergan then conducted additional studies to test the safety and effectiveness for lash growth.
Is LATISSE® FDA approved?
LATISSE® received approval from the FDA in December 2008 as the first prescription treatment to grow lashes longer, fuller, and darker. Since then, over 9 million kits of LATISSE® have been sold.
Are there any side effects of LATISSE®?
The most common side effects of LATISSE® are an itching sensation in the eyes and eye redness. These effects occur in about 4% of patients.
Eyelid skin darkening can occur in about 3% of patients using LATISSE®. This darkening effect is caused by an increase in melanin production in the skin, close to where the solution is applied. This effect is expected to reverse several weeks to months after discontinuing LATISSE®.
LATISSE® can cause increased brown pigmentation of the iris, the colored part of the eye. This color change is often permanent. This effect is very infrequent. Remember, Do Not apply LATISSE® in your eye, or to the lower eye lid.
If you develop a new eye condition (like trauma or infection), experience a sudden decrease in vision, have eye surgery, or develop any ocular reactions (conjunctivitis and eyelid reactions), seek your physician’s advice immediately concerning the continued use of LATISSE®.
Who should NOT use LATISSE®?
LATISSE® is not appropriate for anyone who is allergic to bimatoprost or any other ingredient in the LATISSE® product. If you have glaucoma, or any eye pressure problems, you should obtain approval from your ophthalmologist prior to using the product.
