Before and After

What are Injectable Fillers?

Injectable fillers are gel-like substances that are placed within and beneath the skin.

Fillers lift, plump and smooth the skin. They are used to treat volume loss. Replacing lost volume minimizes the appearance of lines and wrinkles and contributes to a more youthful appearing face.

Injectable fillers offer instant results and are a foundational part of natural and beautiful facial rejuvenation.

Three Factors That Contribute To Aging:

To obtain a youthful and refreshed look, it’s necessary to address each of the issues that contribute to aging:

  1. Volume loss: Bone resorption and fat pad loss. This leads to sagging skin and heaviness of the facial tissues.
  2. Skin laxity: Loose, excess skin and wrinkles
  3. Superficial skin health: skin color, texture, pigment, and hydration status

These changes are part of the normal aging process. Facial fillers help address aging by correcting volume loss.

Fillers are a great option to help replenish lost volume without any downtime or surgery.

If you are looking for ways to rejuvenate or enhance your natural features without undergoing any invasive or permanent treatments, fillers can often help you achieve the look you desire.

At Shea Aesthetic Clinic, we use facial fillers to provide a little tune up. Our goal is to help you feel and look a little refreshed, but still like the natural, beautiful you.

How Can Dermal Fillers Enhance My Appearance and Refreshed?

Dermal fillers are commonly known as “wrinkle fillers,” but they can do much more than this!

Here are a few ways that injectable filler in Knoxville helps you look more youthful:

  • Enhance and restore volume to sunken cheeks and temples
  • Plump and enhance the lips
  • Smooth out lines and wrinkles around mouth and nose (marionette lines and smile lines)
  • Soften vertical lip lines
  • Smooth out chin creases
  • Improve facial symmetry
  • Replaces facial volume loss: Injectable fillers are used to add volume to the cheeks, lips, chin, jawline, temples, and under the eyes, creating a smoother, plump, more youthful, refreshed look.
  • Smooths out wrinkles: In addition to adding volume, injectable fillers help smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, especially around the mouth and nose.
  • Enhances facial contours: Injectable fillers add volume and smooth out wrinkles. This enhances facial contours and creates a more sculpted appearance.
  • By sculpting areas like the cheekbones, jawline, and chin, dermal fillers can redefine facial features and give a subtle lifting effect.

Where Do Injectable Fillers Go?

Injectable fillers are used to target specific issues in areas such as lips, cheeks, chin, and jawline.

Lip filler is a popular treatment used to provide volume and hydration while still maintaining your natural lip shape.

Dermal fillers cam be used to smooth marionette lines and smile lines.

Filler provides contour. Injectable fillers re-volumize the cheeks, define and sharpen the jawline, camouflage jowls, and can improve chin projection.

At Shea Aesthetic Clinic, our injector uses facial balancing as the key to providing a natural look with fillers.

What’s a Filler Procedure Like?

Before filler injections: You’ll meet with your experienced injector to discuss your concerns and goals. Specific filler(s) will be selected based on your needs.

During the procedure: Small droplets of filler are applied a little bit at a time in the treatment areas until the desired result is achieved. The area may then be massaged to help contour the filler to fit the specific location.

After filler injections: Your results will be immediately noticeable after receiving filler. Although the area may swell for a few days, this swelling will ease on its own and you should see your final results approximately two weeks after your treatment.

After receiving dermal filler, you’ll be asked to

  • Take it easy for 24 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise
  • Refrain from excessive sun exposure

This will help decrease the potential redness and irritation that can occur after the injections.

It’s best to avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), like, ibuprofen, for 2-3 days after injections to help decrease the risk of bruising.

It’s also important to avoid using RetinA products on your face for several days after injections. This will help decrease the chance and severity of post-treatment redness.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dermal Filler

As we age, our skin loses volume and elasticity. This leads to heaviness and a hollow or sunken appearance.

Dermal fillers, typically made of hyaluronic acid, can replenish lost volume in areas like the cheeks, lips, and nasolabial folds, restoring a more youthful fullness to the face.

Dermal fillers come in various forms, including Juvederm, Revance, Restylane, Radiesse, Sculptra, and Bellafill. The most common fillers are made of hyaluronic acid.

Dermal fillers last between six months to two years depending on which product is used.

Dermal fillers are generally safe and effective.

The most common reactions after filler injections are swelling, redness, itching, bruising, and tenderness.

These problems are usually mild and resolve within a week or two.

Most fillers are not permanent, so additional treatments are needed every few months or years

Rarely, filler may be mistakenly injected into a blood vessel. This blocks the blood flow in that vessel. The tissue supplied by that vessel can be injured due to lack of blood flow. This can lead to tissue injury and even tissue loss with subsequent scarring. The most severe effects occur when the blood vessel supplies a portion of the brain or the eye.

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Allergic to any of the components in the filler
  • Allergy to lidocaine
  • On blood thinners or immunosuppressant medications
  • Those with a history of severe scarring or pigmentation disorders

That’s a difficult question. Fillers and Botox address similar but also different skin concerns.

Most of the time, combining the two works best to achieve a more beautiful and natural result.

Since both are helpful, but for different problems, it’s best to have a consultation with a skincare expert to determine if one or both treatments is best for you.

Dermal fillers can improve the appearance of acne scars, but they can’t fully cure them.

Any tissue injury can activate the sleeping virus that causes cold sores. So, yes, a filler injection can cause a cold sore.

If you have a history of cold sores and are going to receive filler in your lips, or around your mouth, please let us know.

If this is the case, you’ll be prescribed a medication that helps prevent cold sores. This medication needs to be started the day prior to your injections.

So, please make your provider aware if you need a medication to prevent cold sores.

Lidocaine is added to many of the hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. The lidocaine numbs the area being treated which eases the discomfort of subsequent injections.

To help further reduce the pain of the injections, a topical anesthetic can be applied to the treatment area prior to injections.

One syringe of filler typically ranges from $550 to $900. Some people need 1 syringe of filler, others may need up to 8 or 9.

The cost of dermal fillers depends on which filler is chosen and how much filler used.

The expert injectors at Shea Aesthetic Clinic will discuss your specific goals and help you understand the costs of filler in Knoxville and Oak Ridge prior to your appointment.

If a filler is composed of hyaluronic acid, it can be dissolved and removed.

It’s fairly common to dissolve filler for those that have been over-filled and those who are not happy with their results.

Fillers not made of hyaluronic acid cannot be removed.

Some fillers are designed to be applied right next to the bones in the face. These fillers tend to last the longest. Some can last as long as 2-5 years.

Other fillers are placed more superficially. These fillers last about 6 months to 2 years.

So, the duration of the filler depends on how the filler was made. Some fillers last 6-12 months, others can last 2-5 years.

If the thought of injecting hyaluronic acid fillers into your face is just too much to consider, there are other options.
